Hadley Middle School is
closed today, due to the passing of a student who is suspected to have died of meningitis. Meningitis is a serious swelling of the brainstem and spinal cord caused by viruses or bacteria. Symptoms include a high fever that occurs suddenly, an intense headache and/or stiff neck, nausea & vomiting, feeling tired or weak, sensitivity to light, and a rash that is usually colored pink or purple. Because bacterial meningitis is a life-threatening illness that requires immediate care, early treatment is key to a good outcome. Meningitis is contagious, but it can be treated successfully with antibiotics. More information may be found at the following sites:
