* Amnesty for Fines!

The Homer Township Public Library is celebrating National Library Week by declaring “Amnesty for Fines” from April 1st to April 30th, 2008. Any overdue materials owned by the Homer Township Public Library that are returned in April will have their late fees forgiven (up to $20.00). Amnesty does not apply to materials that have not yet been returned or to fines that are already on the card from previous overdue materials.

Circulation Supervisor Jody Studer said, “Sometimes people feel embarrassed about having overdue items. Amnesty gives them an opportunity to return overdue items discreetly by dropping them into one of the library’s two books drops. Patrons can also return items to the circulation desk.”

Having an amnesty program such as this one is beneficial in multiple ways. “Getting long overdue materials back is the most important part of the program,” Jody said. “Having materials returned makes them available for other people and saves the library money by not having to replace materials.”
