ADULTS & SENIORS

Senior Tax Assistance -- Wednesday, March 4th from 9am-12pm and Wednesday, March 11th from 9am-12pm The Senior Services Center of Will County will be providing free tax services at the library. Walk-in basis only, with no appointment necessary. Can't make it? Tax Assistance days will also be held on March 18th, 25th, April 1st, and 15th.

JJC Career Services Workshop -- Thursday, March 5th at 3pm
Looking for some job hunting advice? Representatives from Joliet Junior College's Career Services will offer advice and answer questions regarding job searching.

Mystery Book Club -- Monday, March 9th at 7pm
Join us as we discuss The Trophy Exchange by Diane Fanning. Books are available at the library for check out. New members are welcome!

German POW 'Held in the Heartland' Bus-eum -- Tuesday, March 10th from 5-8pm
Visit the Held in the Heartland Bus-eum, a 40-foot school bus converted into a mobile museum/classroom, to reflect on the experiences of German POWs in the Midwest during 1943-46. The unique exhibit consists of photographs and documents, DVD documentaries, artifacts, and more. Patrons can visit the Bus-eum any time between 5 and 8pm.

Prairiesmoke Writers Group -- Wednesday, March 11th at 7pm
Travis Thrasher, author of such books as Isolation and Out of the Devil's Mouth, will be leading this meeting! Travis will share his writing tips and techniques and then answer any questions the group may have. Attendees are then encouraged to share their own work with the group! Writers of all levels are encouraged to attend. Registration is not required.

Friends of the Library Meeting -- Thursday, March 12th at 7pm
All Friends of the Library (or those interested in becoming a Friend!) are invited to the monthly Friends meeting at the library. We'll be discussing future projects and fundraising ideas, and we'd love to hear your input!

Armchair Travelers: Australia & New Zealand -- Friday, March 13th from 1:30-3pm
Learn about the landscapes and cultures of Australia and New Zealand through the personal photographs and travel stories of presenter George Reuss. Light refreshments will be served.

TEENS

Teen Book Discussion -- Tuesday, March 3rd at 7pm
We'll be discussing The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson and talking about any other books that we've been reading! Copies of the book are available at the library for check out. Open to teens in 6th grade and up, and new members are welcome!

Teen Techies -- Wednesday, March 4th at 7pm
Discuss the latest trends in technology with other teens! Open to teens in 6th grade and up.

KIDS

Family Movie -- Sunday, March 8th at 4:30pm
Gather the family and head to the library for our Family Movie Night! Popcorn and beverages will be provided. Call the library at (708) 301-7908 for movie title and rating.

10 Weeks to a Tech Savvy Parent!
The Homer Library is proud to announce our new online program -- 10 Weeks to a Tech Savvy Parent! This program is a FREE online course for parents, adults, and other patrons interested in learning more about popular websites and Web 2.0 tools. This course will cover introductions to the various websites and tools, discuss how these websites and tools would be useful for both adults and children, and also promote Internet safety. Participants can read articles and watch tutorial videos on tools such as online communities, blogs, RSS aggregators, video sharing and more! 10 Weeks to a Tech Savvy Parent is hosted on Learnhub's website, a social networking site for teaching and learning. To enroll in the program, click on this link: http://learnhub.com/courses/906-10-weeks-to-a-tech-savvy-parent and click on the "enroll" button on the blue tab. UPCOMING! QuickBooks Lecture -- Wednesday, March 25th at 7pm
This seminar will teach the small business owner how to set up their company books on the computer using the accounting package QuickBooks. Topics covered will include how to set up a company file and an industry specific chart of accounts, along with the basics of how to perform accounts receivable and accounts payable functions within QuickBooks. Additional topics that will be covered include bank reconciliations and how to backup and store your data. To register, call (708) 301-7908.
