Advanced eBay -- Wednesday, April 29th at 7pm
Now that you've sold your items on eBay, how do you maneuver around your eBay account? This eBay lecture will take you into more details on the famous internet auction website. You will learn how to edit a live auction and how to check to see how many people have looked at your auction. You'll also learn how to process sold auctions with invoices and packing slips. You'll see how to process payments through the PayPal website, along with how to pay your eBay fees, how to generate positive feedback and handle disputes, and much more.
Training to be Top Dog -- Thursday, April 30th at 7pm
Presenter Alex Brooks will cover behavior-related issues including how to train an aggressive, timid, or overactive dog; basic commands; ending excessive barking; leash training; tips for purchasing a dog; the differences between pet shops; private breeders and shelter dogs; understanding your dogs; understanding your dog's body language; and how to introduce a new dog into the home or to an existing dog. No pets please!
Route 66 on a Tank of Gas -- Tuesday, May 5th at 7pm
Many travelers believe that Route 66 in Illinois has more attractions per mile than any other state. With our current economy, people are deciding to remain closer to home on their vacations. For a short day trip, try the "triange route," taking Route 66 to St. Louis, and returning on the Great River Road and the Lincoln Highway. Learn more about Route 66 at this fascinating and fun program!
Armchair Travelers: Russia -- Friday, May 8th at 1:30pm
Michael Gauer will take you on a trip to Russia. Discover the architecture and culture of this country through color photographs and personal experiences. Light refreshments will be served.
YAC Meeting -- Wednesday, April 29th at 4:30pm
Stop by the monthly meeting of the library's Youth Activity Committee! We will be holding a photo scavenger hunt in the library and it's going to be awesome! We'll also be giving an update on the success of the YAC-sponsored Jean Drive that's currently being held at the library. Open to teens in 6th grade and up.
Teen Book Discussion -- Tuesday, May 5th at 7pm
We'll be discussing The Key to the Golden Firebird by Maureen Johnson and talking about any other books that we've been reading! Open to teens in 6th grade and up.
Lego Time -- Tuesday, April 28th from 4:30 - 5:30pm
Build your own Lego design to display in the library! All ages are welcome to participate. Legos will be provided.
Author Visit: Suzanne Morgan Williams -- Thursday, May 7th from 4:30 - 6pm
Childrens author Suzanne Morgan Williams' latest book, Bull Rider, has been selected by the Junior Library Guild for their Spring 2009 collection. Join us as Ms. Williams discusses skateboarding, bull riding, and how a young boy copes with the return of a wounded brother from the war. During the program, participants will help create a Rodeo Mural and design their own Brand to be displayed in the library. This event would make a great Scout outing! Bookmobile Event: TLC Animal Shelter Donation Drive
In honor of National Be Kind to Animals Week, the Homer Library Bookmobile, in partnership with the TLC Animal Shelter, is holding a donation drive. TLC is in need of the following items: paper towels, postage stamps, foam floor squeegees, non-clumping kitty litter, money for veterinary services/utility bills/etc., and gift cards for Menards, Home Depot, or gas cards. Donations will be accepted on the Bookmobile from April 27th through May 27th. Thank you for your support!
Jean Drive
We've received many donations for the library's Jean Drive -- thank you to all who have donated! We will continue to take jean donations throughout the month of May. All sizes are accepted (jeans only, please). Jeans will be donated to the Daybreak Shelter in Joliet. The Jean Drive is sponsored by the Homer Library's Youth Activity Committee. Thank you for your support!
10 Weeks to a Tech Savvy Parent!
The Homer Library is proud to offer our newest online program -- 10 Weeks to a Tech Savvy Parent! This program is a FREE online course for parents, adults, and other patrons interested in learning more about popular websites and Web 2.0 tools. This course will cover introductions to the various websites and tools, discuss how these websites and tools would be useful for both adults and children, and also promote Internet safety. Participants can read articles and watch tutorial videos on tools such as online communities, blogs, RSS aggregators, video sharing and more! 10 Weeks to a Tech Savvy Parent is hosted on Learnhub's website, a social networking site for teaching and learning. Prairiesmoke Writers Group
The monthly meeting of the library's writers group is still going strong! Stop by to discuss your work with other writers and have fun with some group writing assignments. New members are welcome! Writers of all levels are encouraged to attend. Registration is not required.
