Chick Lit Book Discussion -- Tuesday, May 26th at 7pm
This month's selection for the Chick Lit Book Discussion is In Her Shoes by Jennifer Weiner. Books are available at the library for check-out. New members are welcome!

Stamping Workshop -- Wednesday, May 27th at 7pm
Carol Thomas will provide you with tips and techniques for creating your own handmade cards with stamps. Supplies will be provided, and all participants will leave with cards that they have created! Basics of Microsoft PowerPoint 2007
Basics of Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 classes will be held on June 1st at 6:30pm and June 3rd at 6:30pm. Classes will be held on laptops (provided by the library) in the library's meeting room. Drinks and food are not allowed. Class size is limited to 5 participants. Classes are free, but space is limited and registration is required. Funding for this program is brought to you as part of a grant that was awarded to the Homer Township Public Library by the Illinois State Library (ISL), a Division of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), under the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA).

TEENS

Teen Book Club -- Tuesday, June 2nd at 7pm
The next selection for the Teen Book Club is Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin! We'll be discussing this book and talking about any other books that we've been reading. Open to teens in 6th grade and up.

YAC Summer BBQ -- Wednesday, June 3rd at 4:30pm: Revised Date!
Celebrate the arrival (well, almost!) of summer at the library's annual YAC BBQ (please note the revised date)! We'll be eating hot dogs and other BBQ snacks, playing Bags (weather permitting!), and preparing decorations for the library's summer reading program. For teens in 6th grade and up.

KIDS

Lego Time -- Tuesday, May 26th at 4:30pm
Build your own Lego design to display in the library! All ages are welcome to participate. Legos will be provided.

Upcoming! Get Wild In the Wilderness -- Wednesday, June 10th from 10am to Noon
Join Girl Scout Troop 515 and the Homer Library's bookmobile staff for some exciting outdoor games, storytelling, and crafts at Culver Park! Registration is recommended for this free event. Call (708) 301-7908 to register.

Summer Newsletter Now Available!
The Summer 2009 edition of the library newsletter is now available! Inside you will find information on all of our upcoming summer programming, including our summer reading program, bookmobile activities, and special events. Copies of the newsletter are available at the library, in the June 4th edition of the Homer Horizon, or you can view it from home by clicking here!

Summer Reading Program Kick-Off & Program Registration
The library's Summer Reading Program starts on June 15th! Stop by the library to meet Boomer, the mascot for the Windy City Thunderbolts, beginning at 9:30am. June 15th also marks the first day of registration for any summer programs. Also, the Bookmobile's Summer Reading Club runs from June 8th - July 29th, when readers will have the chance to win fun prizes! We hope to see you at the library or on the bookmobile this summer!

Teen Intern Applications Still Being Accepted
Applications for this summer's Teen Intern Program are now available! You can pick one up at the library, or you can download one here! The program is open to teens who are entering 6th grade & up (as of Fall 2009). Shifts are usually limited to 1-3 hours per week, and volunteer space for each event is based on first come, first served (dates and times of each event are available on the application). The deadline for applications is June 1, 2009, and applicants will be notified of their schedule by June 8, 2009. There will be no orientation meetings this year, so please read the rules found on the application. We look forward to having you intern at the library this summer!

Teen Advisory Board
Teens in 9-12 grades are invited to join the library's new Teen Advisory Board! Members will have the opportunity to influence the Homer Library's teen services. TAB will meet once a month to discuss books, programming, and other library topics. Members will receive volunteer hours for attending TAB meetings. Summer TAB meetings will be held on Thursday, June 25th at 7pm and Thursday, July 23rd at 7pm.
