We'll be discussing two books this month: Whiskey Sour by J.A. Konrath and The Fifth Floor by Michael Harvey. Both books are available at the library for check out. New members are welcome!
Prairiesmoke Writers Group -- Wednesday, June 10th at 7pm
The monthly meeting of the library's writers group is still going strong! Stop by to discuss your work with other writers and have fun with some group writing assignments. New members are welcome! Writers of all levels are encouraged to attend. Registration is not required.
Armchair Travelers: Hawaii -- Friday, June 12th at 1:30pm
Frank Klicar will guide you on a tour of Hawaii, Maui, Oahu, Kauai, and Molokai. Visit beautiful beaches and legendary volcanos, and learn about the history and traditions of each island. Light refreshments will be served!
Chick Lit Book Discussion -- Tuesday, June 16th at 7pm
June's selection is Everyone is Beautiful by Katherine Center. Join us for fantastic discussion, new friends, and fun times!
Knitting Group -- Tuesday, June 16th at 7pm
Bring your yarns and needles and join the library's monthly knitting club! Meet other knitters and view each other's projects. The group meets on the third Tuesday of every month.
Beginning Birdwatching -- Wednesday, June 17th at 7pm
Interested in birdwatching? Attend this informative event lead by an impressive group of speakers: Bob Bryerton, Facility Coordinator of the Plum Creek Nature Center and Bill and Denise Allaway, owners of Wild Birds Unlimited. This program is emceed by Leo Bigus, Nature and Wildlife Columnist for the Homer Horizon.
Teen Manga Group -- Thursday, June 11th at 7pm
We'll be having an art show, so bring your favorite manga-inspired artwork to show off to the rest of the group! Not an artist? Come anyway and enjoy the work of your friends! Open to teens in 6th grade & up.
Teen Movie Night -- Thursday, June 18th at 7pm
Grab your friends and head to the library's Teen Movie Night! We'll provide the popcorn and drinks. Call the library at (708) 301-7908 for movie title and length. Open to teens in 6th grade and up.
Get Wild In the Wilderness -- Wednesday, June 10th from 10am to Noon at Culver Park
Join Girl Scout Troop 515 and the Homer Library's bookmobile staff for some exciting outdoor games, storytelling, and crafts at Culver Park! Registration is recommended for this free event. Call (708) 301-7908 to register.
Touch a Truck Day -- Friday, June 12th from 10:30 to 2:30pm at Dellwood Park
Come to Dellwood Park in Lockport (Woods Dr. & IL Route 171) and visit the Bookmobile along with lots of other large vehicles! Make sure to stop & say hi to our awesome bookmobile staff!
Build Your Own Sundae -- Tuesday, June 16th from 11:30 to Noon OR 12:30 - 1pm
Build your own ice cream sundae with creamy vanilla or chocolate ice cream and choice of fabulous toppings! This sweet program is for kids ages 6-9. Registration is required, and the first day of registration is on Monday, June 15th (for more information on program registration, please see "More Info" below).
Father's Day Craft -- Tuesday, June 16th at 4:30pm
Surprise your dad with a handmade picture frame for Father's Day! Children 6 and under require adult help. There is a $3 fee per child.
Thursday Morning Family Movie -- Thursday, June 18th at 10am
Gather the family and head to the library for our Thursday Morning Family Movie! Popcorn and beverages will be provided. Call the library at (708) 301-7908 for movie title and rating.
Summer Reading Program Kick-Off & Program Registration
The library's Summer Reading Program starts on June 15th! Stop by the library to meet Boomer, the mascot for the Windy City Thunderbolts, beginning at 9:30am. June 15th also marks the first day of registration for any summer programs. In-person registration begins at 8:30am, and telephone registration begins at 12pm. Also, the Bookmobile's Summer Reading Club runs from June 8th - July 29th, when readers will have the chance to win fun prizes! We hope to see you at the library or on the bookmobile this summer!
Brookfield Zoo Passes for Homer Library Patrons
Did you know that the Homer Library offers free Brookfield Zoo passes for check out? It's true! Zoo passes are given on a first come, first served basis, and cannot be reserved. We recommend you call the library to see if a pass is available (at 708-301-7908), as we have only 4 passes and they are in high demand during the summer months. Only Homer Library patrons ages 18 or older can check them out. With each pass, up to 8 people are entitled to a free general admission to Brookfield Zoo and the Hamill Family Play Zoo (this also includes free parking for up to 2 vehicles). Passes can be checked out for 3 days. An overdue fine of $5.00 per day will be charged to your account if it is returned late. When returning the zoo passes, please do not return them in the book drop. We hope you enjoy your time at the Brookfield Zoo!
Teen Advisory Board
Teens in 9-12 grades are invited to join the library's new Teen Advisory Board! Members will have the opportunity to influence the Homer Library's teen services. TAB will meet once a month to discuss books, programming, and other library topics. Members will receive volunteer hours for attending TAB meetings. Summer TAB meetings will be held on Thursday, June 25th at 7pm and Thursday, July 23rd at 7pm. Interested in attending? Email Heather at

Mary Poppins: Chicago's Perfectly Magical Musical!
Broadway in Chicago has generously donated 4 tickets to the Homer Township Public Library for the Thursday, June 25th performance of Mary Poppins! The show, which begins at 8pm, is being performed at the Cadillac Palace Theater (151 W. Randolph St., Chicago). Patrons are invited to come into the library and fill out a free raffle ticket for a chance to win!The winning ticket will be drawn on Friday, June 19th and the winner will be notified by phone. Tickets are not exchangeable for another date. Good luck!
Jean Drive: An Update!
We are happy to announce the the library's Jean Drive was a great success! Library patrons and staff donated a total of 140 pairs of jeans, all of which will be given to an area shelter. Thank you to those who donated items, and to the library's Youth Activity Committee for sponsoring the event and boxing up all of the donations! Your kindness is appreciated.
