ADULTS & SENIORS

Senior Tax Assistance -- Wednesday April 14th from 9am-noon
The AARP and the Senior Services Center of Will County will be providing free tax services at the Homer Library. Please bring the following items: photo ID, proof of social security number & dependent, all income statements, all deductions to be claimed, last years federal and state returns, and your property pin number. First come, first served, on a walk-in basis only.

Mystery Book Club -- Monday, April 12th at 7pm
Join us for a lively discussion of The Fifth Woman by Henning Mankell! The mystery book club welcomes new members, so if you like a good mystery, stop on by! Books are available at the library for check-out.

Prairiesmoke Writers Group -- Wednesday, April 14th at 7pm
Stop by the monthly meeting of the library's writers group! You're invited to discuss your work with other writers and have fun with some group writing assignments. New members are welcome! Writers of all levels are encouraged to attend. Registration is not required.

Balance and Falls: Risk Identification and Prevention, Part 1: Friday, April 16th at 2pm
Have you noticed a change in your balance abilities or have you or someone you know fallen lately? Licensed physical therapists from Functional Therapy & Rehabilitation will conduct a 2 part informative and interactive class covering balance and fall assessment. The first class will identify risk factors for falls and include tips to prevent falls. The second class, on Friday, April 30th, will include an individualized balance assessment.

Adult Book Discussion -- Wednesday, April 21st at 7:30pm
Have you read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows? Then stop by the Adult Book Discussion meeting, where we'll be discussing it! New members are welcome.

TEENS

Teen Manga Group -- Thursday, April 15th at 7pm
Join us as we look at the anime music videos our members have created at home! For teens in 6th grade and up.

College Preparation Workshop -- Thursday, April 22nd at 7pm
What do colleges look for in a successful candidate? Are private colleges & universities affordable? To save money, can I transfer after attending a community college? Which colleges or universities offer my major? These and other topics will be discussed by a local admissions dean. Bring your questions about college and learn about what you should be doing to prepare for college and making it affordable. Presented by Andrew B. Sison, Dean of Undergraduate Admission at Lewis University in Romeoville.

UPCOMING! Public Speaking & Communication Skills, April 28th at 7pm
Learn how to sharpen your public speaking and communication skills in this one hour program. You’ll be shown tips and techniques to become more comfortable with speaking in front of a crowd and also how to communicate effectively with others in smaller settings. Presented by Lisa O'Toole, Assistant Professor of Communications at Lewis University in Romeoville.

UPCOMNG! 7 Reasons to Leave the Party, May 12th at 7pm
Teens will learn to be proactive in their safety regarding alcohol and drug use. You’ll hear real life stories from an actual judge that will help you make smart choices for yourself and your friends. Presented by Judge Bobbi Petrungaro.

UPCOMING! Iron Oaks Teambuilding Session, May 22nd, 9-11am OR 11-1pm
Join us for a series of fun teambuilding challenges with other teens! We'll be doing a series of activities that require teamwork, trust, communication, and problem-solving skills (kind of like the TV show Survivor, without being stuck on an island). This event will be held outdoors (weather permitting). Presented by Iron Oaks Environmental Learning Center. Waivers must be signed by a parent or guardian, so advance registration is required.

KIDS

Spring Kids Craft -- Tuesday, April 20th at 4:30pm
Kids are invited to stop by the library to make a flower and butterfly wreath! There is a $3 fee per child, and children ages 6 and under require adult assistance. Please register at the circulation desk.

National Library Week Fine Forgiveness: April 11-17th
To celebrate National Library Week, from April 11-17th the Homer Township Library will offer amnesty on fines. Fines will be waived on all overdue items belonging to the Homer Township Public Library District. Patrons can discreetly return items in the book drops outside even when the library is closed. The goals of this program include: getting long overdue items back, bringing missing patrons back into the library, and making items available for other people. Late fees up to $20.00 will be forgiven during the week. Amnesty does not apply to lost or damaged items or out-of-system interlibrary loan items.

Chick It Out!: The Eggs Are Coming!
The Homer Library is excited to announce Chick It Out, a unique library event featuring the incubation and hatching of live chicks! Beginning April 20th, patrons can visit the library to see the eggs in the incubator or view our 24 hour live webcam from our website. Patrons can also participate in programs celebrating Chick It Out!, including these eggs-cellent events:

4/20: The arrival of the eggs! Don't miss the special delivery! An exact time of delivery will be announced in the next few days.
4/20: All ages kids chick craft at 4:30pm. Make a chick card!
4/27: Chick Lit Book Discussion for adults at 7pm.
4/29: Drop in teen craft (for teens in 6th grade & up) from 6-8pm. Make an eggs-traordinary egg pot!
5/2: Family Movie Event at 4:30pm. Come enjoy a movie and popcorn!

4/12-5/5: Eggs-ceptional coloring contest
4/19-5/5: Guess the eggs-act hatch date contest
