ADULTS & SENIORS

Interior Re-Design for Any Budget -- Thursday, November 4th at 7pm
Learn how to edit mismatched furniture, accessories, and artwork for a cohesive look; re-arrange, borrow, and re-purpose items from other rooms; grouplike items together for more impact; and how a simple paint job or accent wall can refresh a boring room.

Mystery Book Club -- Monday, November 8th at 7pm
Join us as we discuss The Poacher's Son by Paul Doiron. Books are available at the library for check out. New members are welcome!

Hidden Harry Potter -- Tuesday, November 9th at 7pm
Enter the magical world of Harry Potter with this thrilling insider's peek at one of the most enjoyed film series of all time. Steven Franzel will share inside jokes, uncover behind-the-scenes tidbits, and share fascinating facts sure to delight film buffs and Potter fans alike. Register to reserve your seat on the Hogwart's Express and let the movie magic begin! This program is for adults and teens.

Prairiesmoke Writers Group -- Wednesday, November 10th at 7pm
Stop by the monthly meeting of the library's writers group! You're invited to discuss your work with other writers and have fun with some group writing assignments. New members are welcome! Writers of all levels are encouraged to attend. Registration is not required.

Armchair Travelers: Ireland -- Friday, November 12th at 1:30pm
Explore the history and beauty of Ireland with George Reuss. From Dublin to Blarney to the world famous Waterford Crystal Factory, you’ll discover the country’s gorgeous castles, seaside towns, and landmarks.

TEENS

Teen Book Club -- Tuesday, November 2nd at 7pm
Join us as we discuss the The Line by Teri Hall. Books are available at the library for check out. New members are welcome! For teens in 6th grade and up.

ACT Practice Test -- Saturday, November 13th at 10am
A fully-proctored practice ACT will show teens what to expect in a test-like environment. Teens will receive a comprehensive analysis of your performance on the test, detailing individual strengths and weaknesses. Test scores will be provided at the ACT 101 program on November 29. Sponsored by Kaplan. Registration is required.

KIDS

Kids Movie: Rescheduled for Monday, November 22nd at 1pm
Due to a scheduling conflict, the childrens movie that was to be shown on Saturday, November 13th at 1pm has been moved to Monday, November 22nd at 1pm. School's out for Thanksgiving that week, so why not spend some time enjoying a movie and popcorn at the library? Please call (708) 301-7908 for the movie title (rated PG) and length.

Culture Club: New York -- Saturday, November 6th from 10am-noon
"The Big Apple" adventures await you! Visit the vibrant state of New York and tour the Statue of Liberty. Take part in a Broadway production! Grades 3 and up.

Bookmobile Event: Family Reading Night
Get prepared for Family Reading Night! From November 8-17, pick up and complete the form entitled "What We Read Together...". Return the form by December 1 for a chance to win a family entertainment prize!

November is Food For Fines Month!
From November 1st to 30th, Homer Library patrons can pay off library fines with food instead of cash! Bring in one non-perishable food item and we'll waive $1 off existing fines or returned overdues. Paying for late fees for InterLibrary Loan items and replacement fees of lost items is not included in this offer. Up to $20 in overdue fines will be waived for each donation from the following list of acceptable items:

+ 8 oz. or more can of fruits or vegetables+ 6 oz. or more can of meat, fish, or poultry
+ 10.5 oz or more can of soup (no packaged soup or ramen, please)
+ 1 box pasta, rice, or dried beans
+ 12 oz. or more box of cereal
+ 8 oz. or more jar of peanut butter

Offer valid only during the month of November. Only non-perishable, undamaged, unexpired, and labeled items will be accepted. Additional donations are welcome. All donated food will be given to local food banks for distribution. Thank you for your support!

National Game Day
Stop by the library on Saturday, November 13th to celebrate National Gaming Day! We'll have gaming during open library hours. There will be board games for all ages, Super Mario Kart in the teen section, and lots of fun! This is a drop-in event, so no registration is required. Game on!

A New Home For Our Guinea Fowls
Hopefully you were able to say hello to the three guinea fowls that hatched at the library! We housed the little guys for the past two weeks, but now they are too big to keep here. The Homer Glen farmer who gave the eggs to us will be raising them as they grow bigger! Check back in the Spring of 2011 for more egg-citing chick adventures!

Library Closed
In observance of Veterans Day, the library will be closed on Thursday, November 11th. Bookmobile service will also be suspended for the day. We will reopen Friday morning at 8:30 am. Thank you to those who have served our country!
